Returning to work

Returning to work after a holiday is always a period of adaptation. We had a few weeks where our times were different and our usual routine disrupted, so we need to get it all back. The attitude one may have towards their work may also play a part in this adaptation period. Some may find it exciting, others, not so much. For example, in my case, I am always very excited to be back at work. Don’t get me wrong, I love being on holidays and have time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends, but when the end of the holiday break approaches, I start getting excited about the new year ahead. My brain starts missing the activity and being back to work.

Getting back to the work routine

One of the great ways of getting ready to get back at work is slowly reintroducing our normal routine. I usually start going to bed at a closer time to the one I usually go on working days. This will help me to get my sleep in order, so I can start fresh. However, I hardly sleep the night before I start. I’m too excited and thinking about all the things I have to do. But because I am excited and the adrenaline is running I don’t feel tired, unlike any other day of the year after a bad night.

Planning ahead

Planning the first day and get everything organised will help with stress levels. If everything is organised in advance and you just have to get up in the morning, get ready, have your breakfast and go, it will leave you free of that rush and stress to get everything done and still get to work on time.

Everyone is different. We all do things our own ways. This is how I usually plan my return to work, so everything runs smoothly and I minimise stress.
